Director - Raye Hurley

In her 13th year as the Choir Director at Franklin County High School, Raye”s choirs have grown to include a comprehensive music program including over 20% of the school population and including seven choral ensembles, two keyboard labs and an Individual Voice Studio class. A native of Hazard, KY, she graduated from UK in 2003 with my Bachelors of Music Education (Voice).  received her Masters in Education from Georgetown College in 2007 and received her Rank 1 in 2008 when she became a National Board Certified Teacher.

Raye lives in Frankfort with her husband, Brandon, and her two daughters, Logan and Ella. They are active members in the music program at the historic First United Methodist Church where they sing and lead worship for the GNN contemporary service and serve as guest soloists for the traditional service. Raye has served as musical director for several Bluegrass Theater Guild productions.

Raye is looking forward to her debut year as the conductor of the Capital City Chorale.

Accompanist - Dr. Stephen Penn

Dr. Penn, a graduate of Franklin County High School, graduated from University of Kentucky with a degree in piano performance. He also completed his Master’s degree, MM and DMA in piano performance. He has served as music director, vocal coach, accompanist in Florida, New England, University of Kentucky, and Louisville. Most recently he has served as Rehearsal Pianist at St. Petersburg Opera and Pianist, Conductor and Music Director of Education Outreach at St. Petersburg Opera. He has recently moved back to Frankfort and currently is Choir Director, South Frankfort Presbyterian Church.

Although the director makes many artistic decisions, the Chorale is governed by an elected Board of Directors. Current Board members are:
