History and Purpose

The Capital City Chorale, Frankfort’s community singing ensemble, began in 1994 under the direction of Dr. Carl Smith. The group consists of vocalists from professionals to average music lovers. Currently members hail from Franklin, Scott, Shelby, Woodford and Anderson counties.

Capital City Chorale is a vital part of the Frankfort arts scene and supports other arts programs in the community. Over the years the group has performed at a variety of venues around town—from the Stewart Home School to the Governor’s Mansion and Kentucky State University--performing at events such as the Frankfort Memorial Day Ceremony, Frankfort Candlelight Tour and the dedication of the KY National Guard Memorial.

The Purpose of the group is to provide an organization for those who wish to perform in a choir and to encourage the musical education of its members and the surrounding community. The group strives to perform musical works which engage and stretch the members of the ensemble but also engage the audience.
