Assistant Director - Taylor Strickland
Taylor is currently the choir/piano teacher at Woodford County High School. He was selected for the Governor’s School for the Arts in 2012 and attended the University of Kentucky where he earned his Bachelors in Music Education. While at UK, he sang with UK Chorale, Men’s Chorus, Blue Note, as well as the famed Acoustikats…where he served as the Assistant Coach from 2016 to 2018. Taylor was selected as our Assistant Director in 2019.
Accompanist - Marla Walker
When asked to serve as the accompanist for the Capital City Chorale, Marla asked if she could think about it for a few days. That same evening, Marla contacted us and said “Yes!” and we are so very glad she did!
Marla began piano lessons at just 7 years old…though practicing was not her favorite thing to do for a long time. She began playing in band in middle school which continued throughout her college years. Marla majored in piano and participated in the University of Kentucky Chorus. She graduated with a degree in Music Education and taught for a few years. She went back to school and earned degrees in Accounting and Computer Technology. Using these additional skills for many years, Marla retired from Kentucky State Government in December 2014.
Marla has had various roles in several productions with the Bluegrass Theater Guild. She serves as a substitute organist/pianist for Frankfort First United Methodist Church; former choir director for another local church; playing English hand bells in various churches; and accompanying the choirs at Western Hills High School.
Music has been, and continues to be, a very important part of Marla’s life. Marla is happily married to her wonderful husband, Ken Walker. The Capital City Choral is very grateful to have Marla as part of our team as we make and share music with our community.
